Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by. I'm a Senior Behavioral Health Researcher with the Maryland Judiciary's Administrative Office of the Courts, where I lead research and data analysis projects to help meet the needs of justice-involved individuals with mental illness. My independent research, which began with my dissertation at at Keiser University, focuses on the relationship between mental illness stigma, the impostor phenomenon, and goal-related rumination. I am also developing a socioecological model for understanding bipolar spectrum disorders.

My research is guided by insights gained from the experiences and connections I've made with people struggling to achieve personally meaningful goals because of poor mental health. Ultimately, what drives me is an immense desire to understand and address structural, environmental, and psychosocial barriers to success, particularly as they relate to mental illness. I strive to use a holistic approach in my research, and I value work that involves interdisciplinary perspectives, creative science, and diverse research methodologies.

On a personal note, I was born and raised in Illinois but have now exchanged cornfields for the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Fiction writing is my favorite pastime, and I used to be a competitive bowler. Recently I discovered the joy of photographing wild birds and sharing what I learn with the 5,000 people following my birding blog. I also enjoy books, video games, shows, and music of any genre—whatever makes me feel deeply.
